CushionRank is made by Helmswick Systems Inc., a company in Cambridge, Ontario, founded by John Barr.

Every US broker-dealer files an audited annual report with the SEC, and the balance sheet, its notes and the auditor's report on it are public by rule; most firms also publish the net capital computation. They sit on EDGAR as thousands of separate PDFs, each laid out its own way. CushionRank reads every one into the same fields, each figure with the page it came from, so a firm can be looked up in a minute and placed among firms its size.

A language model reads each filing, and software and a second model check what it read. How the filings are read says how, and how often it is wrong.
